Boho Bridal Shoot with Kristyn Harder Photography September 05 2016

By Kayla Pearcey

It's no secret that here at Adorn, we're completely and utterly obsessed with all things feminine and romantic. So, our recent shoot with local photographer Kristyn Harder Photography speaks to exactly that aesthetic.

We got together with Evan Brown from Whiskey Weekend along with her gals from Three Way Clothing one evening to bring a boho bridal party to life. All while dodging summer thunderstorms!

The lovely models were pampered from head to toe (literally) by the talented girls at the Vanity Vault Calgary with hair, makeup, nails AND tans all done. The whole shebang! The gorgeous florals in this shoot were provided by Amborella Floral Studio.

For the outfits, we had the bride (Evan) wear two different For Love and Lemons dresses. Her first option was a midi length white lace dress with a nude bodysuit underneath and low-cut front. This style really gave us the bohemian feel we were looking for in this shoot.

Evan's second look included a sweet feminine off-the-shoulder mini lace dress paired with a loose braid.

For the bridesmaids' outfits, we styled the girls in pretty delicate blush pieces also from For Love and Lemons. The first bridesmaid wore an open lace v-neck blush romper with sweet ruffled sleeves and waistline details.

The second bridesmaid wore a stunning blush dress with peep hole and intimate lace details.

Together these pretty blush and lace outfits equal boho bridal perfection! Don't you agree?! Enjoy some more shots from this romantic shoot below.

What to Wear for Your Engagement Photos July 18 2016

This shoot involves a whole lot of local lovely! Captured by Southern Alberta photographer, Sarah Jozsa Photography. We worked together with Claudette Marie Events, Modern Menswear, Simply Me Canmore and Flowers by Janie to create a magical engagement photoshoot session that will be sure to inspire you and your fiancé!

The most important thing is to wear something you feel comfortable in and reflects you both as a couple. In deciding what to wear for your engagement photos, keep these 4 tips in mind:

1. First off, don't be afraid of colour, prints or fun textures! These elements can help make your photos look dynamic and appealing to the eye.

2. Try to choose silhouettes that flatter your figure and photograph well. Dresses that are too billowy can look gorgeous in person, but are not always flattering in photos. Dresses that are fitted at your natural waist are usually the most flattering!

3. Coordinate with your man - We love how the green florals in Ali's romper match Aaron's pants! It's just the right amount of coordination without being too "matchy-matchy".

4. If you are shooting two looks, use your first to represent something you would normally wear (keeping it classic will give you timeless images!) Use your second look as an excuse to dress up (and to buy a new outfit of course!)

Here are some more shots of this oh so pretty shoot to fill your own inspiration board!

littleCITIZENS Celebration - Haley Salomons April 22 2016

By Kayla Pearcey

During our last collaboration with local blogger Haley Salomons, we got to work with her two adorable boys to celebrate the launch of Vancouver-based littleCITIZENS’ new spring line.

When the boys weren’t running around between shots, Tara Whittaker Photography captured the sweet essence behind the littleCITITZENS’ brand. The playful leggings, adorable little vests and simple shirts definitely speak volumes on these little guys! Not to mention, the casual fit allows them to move freely during playtime and that’s first in priorities to Haley when she styles her boys.

Read more from Haley’s interview below and keep scrolling to see her boys rock littleCITIZENS' apparel!

Adorn: What's your approach when styling your boys? Where does your inspiration come from?

Haley: I basically style my boys in mostly things I would feel comfortable wearing if I was playing all day, which is what they are doing! Grey barely ever wears jeans because he doesn't like them. I dress them in fitted trousers because I don't love the whole baggy cargo pants look that you see a lot of small boys wearing- if I wouldn't wear it I wouldn't dress my boys that way! I'm very inspired by the trends over seas, specifically Scandinavian and Japanese approaches to design and functionality of clothing.

Adorn: Can you tell us some of your favourite trends in baby fashion right now?

Haley: I love love drop crotch (or harem) style pants right now! Slouchy beanies, sportswear (white sneaks, oversized fleece sweatshirts), above the knee shorts for boys, oversized t-shirt dresses for little girlies, and always always cool accessories like backpacks personalized with pins, mirrored sunnies, and fun bracelets to let the kids express themselves on a day to day basis.

Mom Style Day to Night - Haley Salomons April 11 2016

By Kayla Pearcey

Being a mom is hard work, but who says you can't look fabulous while chasing your babes around?! In a recent collaboration with Haley Salomons and Tara Whittaker Photography, we prove that moms can absolutely look cute too!

If you don’t know Haley, she’s a family, design, fashion and lifestyle blogger here in Calgary and mamabear to the cutest boys you’ll ever meet! She’s also a frequent blog contributor at Calgary's  Dote Magazine

Haley gives us a look into her personal, everyday style below.

Adorn: How would you define your personal style as a mom?

Haley: My personal style is very simple, the whole capsule wardrobe thing you know? The same idea on repeat with only a couple new trends each season. I think it's important to have a strong sense of what you like and only subscribe to the seasonal trends that you actually love and that fit into your existing wardrobe. I love blacks and greys for winter, and whites and blush for summer.

Adorn: Would you say your personal style has changed after becoming a mom? If yes, how so?

Haley: If it has changed at all, it is only because I'm still so young and my personal sense of self is still evolving and strengthening. I feel each year I come closer on the outside with my style to how I feel on the inside and how I really perceive myself. I still wear whites, dirty hands be damned- you just have to find a good cleaner!

Haley's first look has a more casual vibe and the second is slightly dressed up for a date night witch her man! Patio drinks anyone?!

Transitioning into Spring Style March 01 2016

By Kayla Pearcey

We don't know about you, but lately we've been dreaming of warm spring hues and prints! With such warm weather in the midst of February, we've already started making that shift from winter to spring by opting for lighter layers.

So, how do we go about transitioning our wardrobes to accommodate this warm weather? Use these suggestions to help you get the most out of your winter wardrobe.

1. Add a pop of colour.

The easiest way to transition into spring is to pull out more vibrant colours to give your winter staples a quick refresh. Easily step up your colour game with a light handbag or shoe!

2. Play with layers.

With mornings remaining a little chilly in the spring, layers are your best option in conquering such weather fluctuations. That way you can add or remove layers as you feel the need!

3. Mix in prints and patterns.

Incorporate fun florals, stripes and more bold prints and patterns to add a little more to your look. We are in love with the floral Cupcakes and Cashmere blazer below!

Aztec Inspired Wedding Shoot by Genevieve Renee Photographie January 28 2016

We’re always eager to work with local businesses to create beautiful collaborations. Is there a better way to showcase the heart and soul of all the creatives in our city? We don’t think so!

This Aztec Inspired Wedding Shoot with photography by Genevieve Renee, styling by J'Adore Décor and mismatched bridesmaid dresses from Adorn achieves all our wishes and dreams of creating a magically pretty local is lovely partnership.

See the original post on Joy-Wed blog!

Aztec Wedding Inspiration | Genevieve Renee Photographie | J'Adore Decor | Joy Wed blog

From Jennalee + Jamie of J'Adore Décor: It has an out-of-the-box appeal, it's playful, and provides inspiration to brides looking for their wedding theme to stand out. With a focus on an Aztec Wanderlust concept, there is still an underlying tone of modernized romance, without fully crossing over into the "boho" trend.

The inspiration behind the editorial was drawn from nature, the colours of autumn and the ever growing trend of tapestry art. We wanted to keep the concept focused around the bride and her bond with her bridesmaids, as well as keeping the freeing definition of wanderlust in touch with their surroundings. The goal was to keep the environment fun, free and colourful - while incorporating the raw beauty of Mother Nature.

We steered away from ones traditional concept of a wedding, and put a lot of focus on mismatched elements, which is evident in everything from the bridesmaids dresses, to the furniture and decor that is used. The vision for the cocktail setting was to have a guest friendly space that was comfortable and interactive. The Caesar bar was designed to urge the attending guests to DIY their drinks to enjoy in the outdoor furniture lounge.

The idea behind this editorial was to continue our love of providing future brides & grooms new, fun & different concepts for planning their wedding day. We feel this shoot  holds true to who we are as event planners and demonstrates that weddings don't always need to be "ordinary".
